Yard Arms are heavily influenced by jangle pop and late-noughties melancholia. Their music evokes a feeling of deep emotion, that has resonated with listeners and has won them support from BBC Introducing and supporting Band of Skulls. They recorded their sophomore EP with Josh Gallop, who has also worked with Phoxjaw.
The EP is beautiful and tender, featuring swirly guitars and emotional lyrics. ‘Idea of Me and You’ is a stunning track, with lyrics about heartbreak shrouded by dark melancholic production. It is a backdrop for the rest of the EP, with ‘Keep On Laughing’ being a positive spin on mental health. “Keep on laughing loud when the world tells you something is not good enough.” The music is upbeat, with some tasty guitar work. ‘Comfortable’ slows things down, with some clean guitars and a passionate vocal performance. The listener can feel the raw passion in the lyrics, which are heartfelt and extremely emotive.
A Glossary of Humans and Beating Hearts’ is beautiful, showing a refreshing honesty and has a charm that will take Yard Arms to higher places.
