EP Review: Thicker Skin // Concrete Bones

Concrete Bones are a garage rock band who are brimming with attitude. Having not heard them before previously, I was recently alerted to their EP ‘Thicker Skin’ which they released last year. It’s full of attitude and snarling vocals. The melodic side makes it easy to get along with, especially the chorus on the title track. It has a rush of energy, while the band has very tight chemistry. The lyrics are very motivational, encouraging the listener to break boundaries and grow a thicker skin.

‘Cinema’ is my personal favourite track on the EP. Maya’s vocals are stunning, and they show a beautiful vulnerability on this track. The music compliments it very nicely as well, with some slow guitars. The final track, ‘Miss Liberty’, has a wonderful chorus, while the garage-rock style production really helps bring the track to a new level.

Concrete Bones have earned a reputation playing around London. Despite narrowly missing out on a slot at the Isle of Wight festival recently, I think Thicker SkinĀ shows that they are able to bounce back and turn the setback into something positive.
